One hundred and twenty-four years
ago, USC founders envisioned an on
campus
arena to further unify the Trojan
community. On October 21, 2006, that
dream
became a reality with the opening of
the Galen Center - new home to USC's
basketball and volleyball programs.
"Nothing says more about the growth
and success of the university than
our
new mecca - the Galen Center."
USC Athletic Director
Mike Garrett
The center puts the Trojan teams on
an appropriately impressive stage,
allowing the Trojans to strut their
stuff in a 255,000 square-foot arena
with 10,258 seats, and utilize new
locker rooms for home and visitors,
as
well as a state-of-the-art weight
room and medical training room. An
attached 45,000 square-foot pavilion
contains additional practice room
with
three sections with enough space for
4 full basketball courts or 9
volleyball courts as well as seating
for 1,000 - along with space for
coaches and administrative offices.
Galen also has function rooms, a
ticket office, concession stands and
merchandise stores for visitors to
the new complex and will house the
Athletic Department Hall of Fame.
Built with the entire community in
mind, the Galen Center will open its
doors to youth and high school
sporting events when the Trojans
aren't on
center court. Still, athletics won't
be the only events to touch down at
the
Galen Center, however. The venue
also will play host to concerts,
commencement ceremonies, community
events, lectures, meetings, shows,
pageants and more.
